Samira Belyouaou (Heidelberg, Germany, 1994) is a daughter of the diaspora. Born to parents from the Rif region of Morocco, she and her four siblings grew up speaking Amazigh at home. Trained in translation, she now works for a software company managing the translation of its products into 80 languages. She took part in the ADITU program last autumn and spoke to us about her first language. Today, around 3.6 million people speak Amazigh in Morocco and Algeria—and, it should be added, throughout the diaspora as well. Since 2011, Amazigh has held official status in both countries, although its implementation and regulation remain limited.
