Nasa Yuwe activists in Colombia’s Cauca region

10/01/2024

Casamachin Yule and Velasco Nuskwe, both Indigenous members of the Nasa people, describe themselves as language activists. They work in a group dedicated to the revitalization of Nasa Yuwe in the municipality of Toribío, in Colombia’s Cauca region. The municipality has a population of 37,166 inhabitants, of whom 96% belong to the Nasa people; the remaining 4% consists of members of other Indigenous communities and mestizo populations. They took part in the ADITU program in October alongside representatives of several other minority language communities.
