The huge festival that turns Wales into a national stronghold for the Welsh language for a week

There is one event marked on the Welsh calendar every year: the Eisteddfod. It is a major festival that places the country’s language and culture at its heart. Held over eight days in August, it usually attracts tens of thousands of people. This year, the festival celebrated its 850th anniversary, at a time when the country has its first pro-independence government.
