Carolina Gandulfo: “The children were ‘silent’ in Spanish, not in Guaraní, but this language was not valued”

Carolina Gandulfo holds a PhD and teaches at the Faculty of Humanities of Argentina’s National University of the Northeast. Last autumn, she took part in the ADITU program in the Basque Country and spoke to us about Guaraní in Argentina. She shared the experience of a school where literacy instruction began in Spanish and, as a result, Guaraní-speaking children unexpectedly “emerged” among the students.
